Influences of thermal effects on high power CW outputs of b-axis Nd:YAP lasers
Abstract
The influences of thermal effects on the transversal field distribution, the direction of beam polarization, the wavelength and the output power of b-axis Nd:YAP (Nd + Cr:YAP) CW lasers are described and analyzed. The effect of the orientation of crystal axes in the cavity is also discussed. Taking these factors into account, a 163-W output has been achieved with a nearly polarized beam from a 5.8 mm dia. x 111 long Nd:YAP rod. The overall eficiency reaches 2.26 percent.
