Determination of electron density in a quiet prominence by different methods
Abstract
Three methods for determining electron density in quiet solar prominences for low densities and temperatures are examined and compared: (1) according to modified theoretical curves of the main quantum-number-dependent half-widths of the Balmer series lines (ne = 10 to the 10th per cu cm and T/kin/ = 5500 K); (2) according to maximally resolved Balmer series lines (ne = 7.4 x 10 to the 10th per cu cm); and (3) according to the total continuum emission beyond the Balmer-series limit (n = 5 x 10 to the 10th per cu cm). The electron-density values obtained by these methods are found to agree well.
