A statistical analysis of the light curve of W Cygni.
Abstract
A statistical analysis was made of the light curve of the variable star W Cygni. The calculations showed that the course of the star's light variation is a stationary random process. The hypothesis that the process is stationary was verified at the significance level alpha = 0.05. Light oscillations with average periods of 131 and 250 days were discovered. The oscillations proved to be narrow-band random noise, i.e., cycles. The peaks in the power spectrum corresponding to these cycles exceed the 99 percent confidence integral. It is established that the oscillations are independent.
