A statistical analysis of the light curve of W Cygni.
Abstract
A statistical analysis was made of the light curve of the variable star W Cygni. The calculations showed that the course of the star's light variation is a stationary random process. The hypothesis that the process is stationary was verified at the significance level alpha = 0.05. Light oscillations with average periods of 131 and 250 days were discovered. The oscillations proved to be narrowband random noise, i.e., cycles. The peaks in the power spectrum corresponding to these cycles exceed the 99 percent confidence integral. It is established that the oscillations are independent.
