Panoramas of the Venera-13 and Venera-14 landing sites /A preliminary analysis/
Abstract
Characteristics of the Venus surface in the regions surrounding the Venera 13 and 14 Venus Lander spacecraft are discussed. Both probes carried television cameras, soil samples with X ray fluorescence capability, and color image comparison strips to calibrate the imagery. Rocks with thin horizontal structure were observed at both sites, and are thought to be a result of gentle sedimentary action. The surface composition is that of lithified accumulations of volcanic ash, deposited by aeolian processes, and is similar to basaltic materials.
