Deterministic and stochastic aspects of turbulence
Abstract
The recent active interest in the deterministic aspects of turbulent flows, referred to as coherent structures is discussed and justified. It is shown that this line of experimental research has yielded some important new results, and has provided new insight to the stochastic character of the flow as well as added new directions for further experimental and theoretical inquiry.
