Evolution of massive pregalactic stars. I - Hydrogen and helium burning. II - Nucleosynthesis in pair creation supernovae and pregalactic enrichment
Abstract
A semiempirical approximation is used to calculate mass loss rates in the present investigation of quasistatic evolution during the hydrogen and helium burning of 80-500 solar mass Population III stars, and the effect of mass loss on the internal structure of the stellar model are interpreted. The central evolution of the stars and their evolutionary tracks in the theoretical HR diagram are discussed and compared with published results. The carbon-oxygen cores left at the end of helium burning furnish the starting models for e(-)e(+)-pair creation SN process hydrodynamical calculations. It is established on the basis of these calculations that core masses in the 48-112 solar mass range explode, and that the nucleosynthesis products in pair creation SNs include elements in the carbon to calcium range.
