Design considerations for an X-ray microprobe
Abstract
The optical design of a fluorescent microprobe covering the X-ray region from 2 to 16 keV is considered for the X-ray ring. The limit on detectability is from total flux (photons/sq microns) and several design choices are considered to match the optical system to the storage ring to maximize throughput. The tradeoffs in image quality and energy resolution of these designs was considered and within these constraints two firm proposals are presented.
