Turbulent flow induced by a jet in a cavity-measurements and 3D numerical simulation
Abstract
Velocity measurements using a laser anemometer of the turbulent flow induced by a jet in a cubic cavity are presented. A numerical code solving the non-stationary Navier-Stokes equations in three dimensions for the large-scale field is described. Subgrid scale turbulence can be modelled by a turbulent viscosity. The results of two cases of large-eddy simulation made with this code on the flow induced by a jet in the cubic cavity are then compared with measurements. The same numerical code is applied to large eddy simulation of plane Poiseuille flow with periodic boundary conditions. Some results on mean velocities and Reynolds stresses are presented and compared with measurements.
