Satellite transponder for CS-2
Abstract
The transponder configuration and performance, circuit design for TDMA and SCPC transmissions, test results, and engineering parts qualifications for the 20/30 GHz operational Japanese CS-2 communications satellites are described. The transponder is a six-channel unit. The noise temperature is 8.0 dB, output is 4 W, and gain is 110 dB maximum in the limiting mode and 98, 103, or 108 dB in the linear mode. GaAs FETs are used for amplifiers, for which tests have indicated stable and reliable performance in the space radiation environment.
