Research and development of a multibeam array antenna for satellite communications
Abstract
A multibeam array antenna and its application to a multiple access link of an inter-satellite data relay system are presented. This multibeam antenna consists of 19-element planar array, RF modules, and an IF beam forming network, and it generates 19 contiguous receiving beams. A new radiating element, the printed-slot array was developed which is suitable for a satellite-borne antenna due to its light weight and low profile structure. Also, a new beam forming network capable of realizing light weight and excellent beam forming characteristics by use of symmetry in element- and beam-arrangements was developed.
