Communications antenna for CS-2
Abstract
A communications antenna for the Japanese Communications Satellite 2 (CS-2a, sb) to be launched in 1983 has been developed. This is a Mechanically Despun Antenna (MDA) which has been widely used for geostationary spin stabilized satellites. The design is based on that of a shaped beam horn reflector antenna with a single feed system capable of operating over the four frequency bands, such as the one used for the CS launched in 1977. In comparison with the CS, however, the communications antenna for the CS-2 is redesigned to improve the electrical and mechanical performance. This antenna provides high gain communication links at 6/4 GHz and 30/20 GHz bands.
