Evaluation of the Fairchild type 55/2 TDI CCD image arrays
Abstract
The suitability of a time delay and integration (TDI) CCD image sensor (developed for a low light level periscope scanning application) for pushbroom scanning in spaceborne Earth imaging radiometers such as the optical imaging instrument (OII) on the European LASS satellite (ERS-2) was assessed. The use of TDI arrays presents no greater problems than linear arrays in terms of nonuniformity calibration, and noise and resolution performance. The spectral response is less smooth and more variable than in linear arrays which do not have electrode structures on the imaging surface.
