Spacelab EMC design
Abstract
Experience gained during electromagnetic compatibility tests on Spacelab is summarized. Extended conducted tests at system level provide good information for system performance. This is valid for emission as well as for susceptibility. System aspects can be investigated in addition to the information from equipment level testing. Radiated tests at system level can be reduced. No H-field measurements are required if there are no special cleanliness requirements. Standard test methods can be used for measurements on large systems. Problems needing special solutions for Spacelab are: injection transformer for high dc current power bus; current probe operation on high dc power buses; and E-Field environment reduction. System-level test results deviate significantly from results obtained on equipment level, especially for radiated emission test. System level tests may help to accept exceeding of limits on equipment level.
