Observations on the application of the F.E.M. for solving flow problems
Abstract
Recent developments in the application of the FEM in fluid mechanics have progressed at a considerable rate. The current paper is an attempt to present the more pertinent developments and specialized techniques for solving convection dominated flows both for laminar and turbulent flow. A rational 'upwinding' technique is presented, together with some observations on 'piecewise' boundary conditions. Some examples are presented, which illustrate the practical application of the advocated techniques.
