Magnetooptical light switches in electrophotographic printers
Abstract
A high definition, high speed reproduction (copying) system, based on the use of semiconductors instead of mechanical or optical systems, was studied. A combination of Kerr magnetooptical light modulators and organic photoconductors was considered. Tests point out the type of light source, the light intensity, the dimensions of the magnetooptical modulators, the electronic regulator systems, and the type of microprocessor used for modulating light switch. The charge decay time in the tested protoconductors is too long, reducing speed of operation. Futher tests used selenium drums instead of the garnet photoconductors. Information is given on how a text system can be adapted to magnetooptical light switches.
