A multi-user telemetry processing architecture
Abstract
Michaud (1981) has provided a description of the telemetry processing system for the Air Force Satellite Control Facility (AFSCF). This paper updates the previous work. A brief overview is presented of the Data System Modernization (DSM) system which is being developed at the AFSCF. The AFSCF is a worldwide network of Remote Tracking Stations (RTSs) connected to a central command and control complex, designated the Satellite Test Center (STC). In support of DOD satellite programs, the AFSCF performs satellite commanding, orbit management, status and health telemetry processing, and planning functions. The DSM Command and Control System (CCS) performs all associated data processing tasks. Each element of the DSM telemetry processing string is discussed, giving attention to the Data Distribution Element (DDE), the Telemetry Contact Support Equipment Group (TLM CSEG), the Telemetry Interface Unit (TIU), the Contact Support Processor (CSP), and the Planning and Evaluation Processor (PEP).
