Digital image transmission and coding
Abstract
A survey is provided of digital processing techniques for the coding, transmission and remote reconstruction of imagery data. The coding techniques considered include PCM, DPCM, and its logical extension tree coding, as well as block transform techniques. Particular emphasis is given to the effects of channel errors on each of these techniques, as well as techniques for combatting these effects. Combined source channel coding approaches which have proven particularly effective in optimizing image reconstruction quality subject to a constraint on the overall transmission bandwidth are considered.
