Spacecraft technology for direct broadcast missions
Abstract
This paper surveys the technologies required for presently conceived direct broadcast satellite (DBS) projects. The technologies include launch vehicles, shaped beam antennas, high power traveling wave tubes (TWTs), electronic power conditioners for TWTs, lightweight, high power solar arrays, heat pipe radiators and output multiplexers. It is concluded that the technology is available and only detailed engineering development and testing are required for DBS construction.
