High density digital data encoding, transmission and decoding in standard video signals
Abstract
Techniques and capabilities of encoding, transmitting and decoding data in the vertical blanking interval of standard composite video signals are described. The data insertion has no effects on the video signal. Serial NRZ data are inserted into the selected line and field in the vertical blanking period, i.e., 12 available lines between lines 10-21 which contain no synchronization or equalization pulses. Current capabilities are 768 bits/field and 48,080 bits/sec. A start of message identifier can be inserted at the beginning of each message and an 8 bit cyclic error checker at the end. The information can be transmitted, received and recorded with standard video equipment.
