Finite element analysis of free convection in enclosures
Abstract
The nonlinear coupled momentum equations are solved using a penalty-function technique and the incremental Newton-Raphson method, and the energy equation is solved directly. Free convection is computed in square, triangular, and annular enclosures, and the results are presented graphically. It is shown that good accuracy can be obtained with a coarse mesh at the low Rayleigh numbers considered.
