Equipment for measuring ionospheric parameters by means of a cylindrical Langmuir probe and a planar retarding-potential analyzer on the Cosmos-900 satellite
Abstract
A description is given of Cosmos-900 instrumentation for measuring the density and temperature of electrons and the density, temperature, and mass composition of positive ions in the ionsopheric plasma. Experiments were conducted with a cylindrical Langmuir probe and a planar retarding-potential analyzer. Multiple-scale amplifiers in the electronics unit make it possible to carry out detailed measurements of the current characteristics of the sensors and to determine the aforementioned parameters of the ionosphere in a wide range of values.
