CITISATCOM - Citicorp's digital satellite network
Abstract
Citicorp is implementing a satellite communications system, called CITISATCOM, to meet its internal domestic telecommunications requirements. CITISATCOM will initiallly be used for voice, data, and video teleconferencing between domestic Citicorp facilities. Citicorp has purchased two transponders on Western Union's Westar V communications satellite, and is installing 11-meter earth stations near cities with large Citicorp populations for long haul transmission. Various types of local distribution facilities will be used to interconnect the earth stations with Citicorp locations. Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) will be used to maximize the capacity of the transponders. CITISATCOM will become operational before the end of 1982.
