Connection phase of multidestination protocols for broadcast satellites
Abstract
A new connection establishment procedure for multidestination broadcast satellite communication, the multiple-attempts-in-one-shot (MAOS) procedure, is proposed. Its performance is evaluated and compared with that of a conventional connection establishment procedure, SAOS (single attempt in one shot), and the conditions for the logical correctness of the connection procedures analyzed are also given. The MAOS procedure is shown to have a substantially lower average connection establishment time than the SAOS procedure. Moreover, the MAOS procedure is highly insensitive to changes in processing delay at any receiver.
