Viscid-inviscid coupling calculations for two and three dimensional flows
Abstract
Viscid-inviscid interaction models in numerical aerodynamics are discussed. An equivalent inviscid flow is coupled with interacting viscous layers, to generate an indirect Navier-Stokes-like solver. The mathematical models are firstly investigated, from the full Navier-Stokes approximation to the boundary layer theory. Separated flows and supersonic upstream influence are considered. The numerical methods for coupling inviscid and viscous solvers are surveyed. Synthesis in external flows applications is shortly outlined, including unsteady and 3D flows.
