Heat transfer from an impulsively started circular cylinder
Abstract
The analytic solution for forced convection heat transfer from an impulsively started heated circular cylinder is studied. The nonlinear energy equation is solved by the method of matched asymptotic expansion to the third order. Solution for the temperature field in term of exponential and error function is found. The time development of the temperature field is plotted. The local Nusselt number over the cylinder surface and the progress of minimum Nusselt number point with time obtained are compared with the existing solutions, with satisfactory results.
