Vibration stability of spinning bodies
Abstract
Spinning bodies with internal energy dissipation are unstable if they rotate about the minimum moment-of-inertia axis. It is shown that these bodies may be stabilized by harmonic balancing through internally vibrating masses. Vibration stability regions for spinning satellites with nutation dampers, and internally vibrating masses are determined.
