Analysis of lasing in a laser-pumped pulsed dye laser
Abstract
An analysis is presented of the effect of the averaging of the rate equations describing generation in a dye laser on the shape of the lasing pulse. It is shown that the appearance of a spike during the onset of lasing is independent of the averaging of the equations over the round-trip time in the cavity. A method for the analysis of unsteady lasing in a dye laser under quasi-longitudinal pumping is discussed. It is shown that, in general, the most significant losses which occur in pulsed dye lasers are diffraction losses, the compensation of which can significantly increase laser efficiency.
