A search for stars with a strong magnetic field
Abstract
The effective longitudinal magnetic field strength He on nine peculiar stars with maximal values for their presumed surface field has been measured on Zeeman spectrograms taken with the 6-m telescope. Four of the stars do exhibit strong fields. The outstanding example is HD 147010, whose peak value He = -4480 + or - 440 gauss places it fifth among stars with the strongest fields known.
