Spirally-reinforced high-strength concrete columns
Abstract
An experimental investigation was undertaken to establish the response of high strength concrete confined in steel spirals when subjected to short term monotonic concentric loading. The main variables studied were the compressive strength and density of the concrete, amount of confinement and specimen size. The program included a total of 94 short columns, most of which were cast without a concrete cover over the spiral steel. A reduced number of specimens was designed to model geometrically a full sized spirally reinforced column to study the nature of the failure of their protective cover.
