Turbulent step flow in flat channel and open ducts
Abstract
The flow characterizing the momentum transport in turbulent flow over a step was investigated. A two dimensional step is chosen as flow model for the separated flow. A test stand was built; laser Doppler anemometer and signal processing based on a transient recorder are described. The measurements provide the time averaged length of the separation layer as a function of Reynolds number and expansion ratio of the test domain. Local velocities were obtained for a few parameters. A numerical calculation model for turbulent separated flow was developed with the experimentally obtained data base.
