Structural members: Mean fluid forces on members of various cross sections
Abstract
This Data Item is available as part of the ESDU Sub-series on Wind Engineering. Mean fluid force coefficients for structural members of various shapes for use particularly in the estimation of wind loading on rolled steel structural members are presented. The data cover equal and unequal leg angles, channels, H- or I- sections and compound angles over 360 degree range of incidence with allowance for yaw angles between 0 degrees and 90 degrees, for finite aspect ratio and shear flows. The effects of Reynolds number, turbulence, interference between nearby members and hysteresis in local flow patterns are discussed.
