Detection of electrical problems using an infrared scanner
Abstract
A valuable tool of preventive maintenance in electrical systems is the use of infrared surveys. Infrared scanners detect problems which produce an abnormal rise in temperature. Because electrical equipment is scanned while it is in service, actual operating conditions are observed. The ability to determine the amount of temperature rise is important in establishing priorities for maintenance work. Parameters which affect the accuracy of infrared scanners are discussed.
