The development of a reduced-order functional representation of an alternator-rectifier excitation system aut 01Chen-Chen
Abstract
Excitation system models typically employed in power system computations are typically valid only for small changes in rotational speed and only for slowly varying system oscillations. Research has uncovered several situations where the range of accuracy associated with existing excitation system models is exceeded. A tractable, functional representation of a specific class of excitation systems is developed. The accuracy of this simplified model is evaluated by comparing the steady state and dynamic characteristics of the simplified model with a highly detailed excitation system representation. The simplified model is shown to be reasonably accurate over a wide range of operating conditions.
