Design requirements for creep-feed grinders, part 3. Application of outside diameter creep-feed grinding, part 4
Abstract
Design requirements for creep feed grinders used in mass production are summarized. They must possess: a high degree of static and dynamic stability; precision guideways, low in friction, nonpositive, with low resilience and good damping; drive outputs in excess of traditional values by a factor of 2 to 5; very precise, rigid spindle bearings, designed for a long life with no maintenance; spindle drives with no lateral thrust or out-of-balance, fitted with stepless regulation; a uniform table drive, with no stick-slip phenomena, centralized design, covering steplessly the entire speed range from swing to creep feed grinding; separate systems for normal coolant lubrication and high pressure grinding wheel cleaning; and built in systems for dressing and calibration of grinding wheels. Creep feed grinding of the outside diameter of workpieces with circular arc profile is described.
