The calculation of imcompressible three-dimensional laminar and turbulent boundary layers in the plane of symmetry of a prolate spheroid at incidence
Abstract
A numerical method was developed for computing the incompressible three-dimensional laminar and turbulent boundary layers in the plane of symmetry of a prolate spheroid at incidence. Elliptical coordinates are used and the results are obtained by an implicit finite difference method, namely, the two point box method. The initial values are obtained rom a stagnation point solution. For the leeward side calculations the numerical procedure is started behind the geometric singular point at the nose of the body with the stagnation point profiles. For the laminar case and different thickness ratios and angles of incidence the development of the wall shear stress values are predicted and compared with results of other authors. For the turbulent case, a comparison with experimental data is given.
