On the Van der Pol-mechanism in the theory of wind-induced vibrations of overhead lines
Abstract
In this paper an asymptotic theory of wind-induced vibrations of a single overhead line is presented. The theory includes the introduction of variables which are significant for the mathematical description of galloping phenomena and their starting mechanism. It is shown that the nonlinear equation as postulated by Meyerscough is a generating equation for the calculation of first order and higher order asymptotic approximations of the solutions of the equations governing the motion of an overhead line.
