Tolerance layouts - their philosophy, construction and use
Abstract
Tolerance stackups and layouts are one of the techniques used by process engineering in a preproduction design review. These assembly layouts indicate whether pieceparts fit properly and/or whether the assembly will perform as desired. Scaled layouts showing the two worst-case tolerance conditions (maximum and minimum clearance) are prepared for analysis. This technique is a powerful tool used for dimensional analysis and cost avoidance.
