Wave model: Flexible cylinder in ocean waves
Abstract
A circular cylinder is submerged in water. The cylinder is flexible, and is allowed to suffer a small deformation as the waves pass. An expression for the velocity potentials is obtained in terms of a rapidly converging series. The forces on the cylinder are discussed and the equations of motion are solved under the assumption that the cylinder is not far from being completely rigid.
