The properties of nonhomogeneous turbulent jets
Abstract
The turbulent diffusion properties of a nonhomogeneous jet issued into a quiescent fluid are analyzed. Instead of using a turbulence model, the empirical assumption is made that the width of a jet is independent of exit conditions and density difference. Formulae on axial velocity, temperature and concentration are derived for round and plane jets, and compared with existing experimental data. The formulae are scaled by equivalent diameters that contain density effect. The analytical assumptions and experimental data correlation are considered.
