Experimental investigation on the vibrations of fluid-filled spherical shells
Abstract
Experimental data on the vibration of spherical shells partially filled with liquid is presented which demonstrates the effect of the liquid on the vibration of spherical shell segments. Tests were performed on aluminum spherical shell segments under the following three boundary conditions: clamped, ring stiffened, and free edge. Holographic interferometry was applied to detect the resonant frequencies and to identify resonant modes of the shells. A numerical analysis was carried out by means of the boundary element method combined with the finite element method.
