A microwave time transmission system
Abstract
A time transmission system, intended for synchronizing time stations is described. The timing signal is a pseudo noise code, modulated on a carrier in L-Band. Coherent reception means small system bandwidth and high sensitivity. A transmitter power of only 1 W and omnidirectional antennas results in a range of over 1000 km. An accuracy of 10 ns for the time measurements was aimed for. The transmission system is also suitable for measuring group delay times. The components of the prototype are described in detail and characteristics such as sensitivity and accuracy are analyzed.
