Enhancement of the CCITT Teletex recommendations to incorporate encipherment and signatures
Abstract
More and more information will be transmitted across data communication networks, some of which is sensitive. This sensitive information needs to be protected by encipherment from passive (e.g., inspection) or active (e.g., substitution) attack. The Teletex service was defined as an international service, which enables subscribers to exchange correspondence on an automatic memory to memory basis via telecommunication networks. The Teletex recommendations were defined without the facilities of encipherment or signatures. The necessary changes to these Teletex recommendations are given to allow the encipherment of correspondence.
