On cylindrical solitary waves
Abstract
The propagation and focusing of a cylindrical solitary wave in waters of constant depth were investigated analytically. In order to accomplish this, an inner-outer expansion technique was applied to the cylindrical Boussinesq equations. The results are in good agreement with the numerical solutions found in the literature. The behavior of the cylindrical solitary wave in the outer region is investigated by obtaining an approximate solution of the corresponding cylindrical Korteweg-deVries equation.
