Flow field of a sonic jet exhausting into a counterflow
Abstract
The flow field resulting from the exhausting of a rotationally symmetric jet in counterflow was experimentally investigated for flow Mach numbers = 0.5 and 2.0 and for several pressure ratios (secondary jet pressure/main flow pressure). Static pressure measurements on the front and upper plane of the exhaust body, Schlieren and oil film photography, temperature and laser velocity measurements in the flow field were used. A flow model was constructed. A numerical calculation of a part of the flow field was made using the method of characteristics and a time dependent approximation method.
