Millimeter wave propagation in surface vicinity
Abstract
Propagation effects under various near-surface conditions were determined. Results relate to short range surface to surface missile guidance, e.g., high speed antitank guided weapons for which mechanical links like wire or optical fiber cannot be used, where the application of millimeter waves is advantageous compared to the restricted performance of laser links in a battlefield environment. Measurements were made in the 35 GHz frequency band. The results were compared to theoretical models. Results for surfaces like asphalt, water, gravel, and grass are given.
