Utilization of the mathematical theory of communication in information sciences
Abstract
Assembling, coding, and knowledge which gives documentary information accessibility and usability was studied. How communication theory can contribute to these techniques was considered. Basics of communication theory are presented, including definition of information quantity, information transmission, and information transmission over a noisy channel. Applications of communication theory in information retrieval are reviewed and the limits of Shannon functions are established. A relation with signification which involves document context, a representative approach, and referential structures is outlined.
