A fibre-optic link for television outside broadcasts
Abstract
A fiber optic link which transmits video signals on an fm carrier is described. It uses a conventional 70 MHz intermediate frequency, and can therefore be used in conjunction with shf links or separately as desired. The link uses a lightemitting diode as a source and is capable of transmission over distances of about one kilometer. After that attenuation and dispersion increase the amount of noise. An outline of the system and its expected performance are given. Then the actual performance of the link as measured in the laboratory and in field trials is described.
