Applications of self-organizing random arrays to communication satellites
Abstract
The investigation of adaptive interference cancelling satellite-borne thinned arrays, capable of forming narrow beams in the direction of signal sources was performed. It was determined that an antenna configuration where the elements are placed in the form of a ring would be most appropriate for uniformity of the mainbeam pattern and for good beamwidth characteristics. However, satellite orientation and ground location uncertainty limit the pointing accuracy. Therefore, utilization of adaption algorithms which are able to work through these errors is required. It was concluded that by using this approach, the required performance can be achieved.
