Components based on magneto-elastic phenomena
Abstract
Magnetoelastic materials and their applications in magnetostrictive oscillators, electromechanical filters and delay lines are discussed. The properties of commercial magnetoelastic materials are tabulated. The performance of magnetostrictive, piezoelectric, and quartz oscillators are compared. The development of low cost quartz and piezoelectric materials reduces the significance of magnetostrictive components. Uses are restricted to springs and diaphragms, e.g. in clocks or control engineering, temperature independent resonators, and vibrational systems.
