A Retrievable Carrier for European science and applications
Abstract
An overview is given of potential payload elements to be flown on the first European Retrievable Carrier (RC) mission. RC carrier performance criteria are listed, and RC payload, program, and design concepts are discussed. The Spacelab program schedule is shown, as are preliminary mission data and payload capability for the microgravity-oriented mission, the potential microgravity payload for the first mission, the role of the user community in the payload definition and design, and potential future RC mission applications. Also shown are the proposed RC phased development, a cost comparison of RC and the satellite bus, RC structural concepts and subsystems, mission configurations and long-term scenarios, and follow-on developments.
